Deliveries of Tesla Semi trucks with 800 km of range will start in 2022
Back in 2017 Tesla announced trucks Semi. Five years have passed since then, and they still haven't gone on sale. But that's about to change.
What we know
Elon Musk, head of Tesla, said that the long-distance trucks Semi with a range of 800 km will go on sale in 2022. At the same time recently the CEO of the American company promised to start deliveries of the trucks at least in 2023.
To begin mass production of long haul trucks, manufacturer must provide the availability of 4680 type battery cells. The Tesla plants in Texas and Nevada are currently doing this. By the way, production in Nevada has been set up in conjunction with Panasonic.
The official price of electric tractors Semi has not been specified yet. Tesla's website still states the $180,000 price, which dates back to the time of the announcement. Many components have gone up in price over five years, so there is a chance that customers will have to pay more.
Note that the truck with a range of 800 km is the longest range version of Semi. The basic electric truck will be available later and will be able to travel a little less than 500 km on a full charge of batteries. The website says the price will be $150,000.
