The American giant Amazon, which in a year and a half has fallen in value by $1 trillion, which no other company in the world can boast of, introduced a robot. It is called Sparrow.

Here's What We Know

If you've already imagined a Tesla Optimus-style robot resembling a human, we hasten to disappoint you. Although if you're reading this, you've probably seen the main image. Basically, Sparrow is a robotic arm. It is designed to do routine work in factories. The presentation took place as part of the Delivering The Future conference.

Amazon reports that the robotic arm uses artificial intelligence and machine vision to move products. Sparrow will be able to perform monotonous work, freeing employees from the tedious routine. Moreover, the device can move objects of different shapes and sizes. Specifically, a set of bedding, a board game and a jar of vitamins.

According to Amazon, Sparrow is able to identify about two-thirds of the company's inventory. Previous generations of robots could only pick up boxes of the same shape but with different dimensions.

At the same time, Amazon was quick to reassure anyone who fears a "robot uprising". The introduction of technology, including Sparrow, will not take jobs away from people. The company will not reduce the number of jobs, and employees, whose work will be performed by a robot, will be able to focus on other tasks.

Amazon also said the technology could improve workplace safety. But the Center for Investigative Reporting may disagree. An analysis showed that the company's warehouses with robots have higher injury rates than those without automation.
