In the U.S., for the first time, a full-fledged house was printed on a 3D printer. And biological raw materials were used to create it.

Here's What We Know

The house was printed as part of an experiment by the Research Group of the Center for Advanced Structures and Composites (ACSS) at the University of Maine. It is called BioHome3D and consists of four modules.

According to the researchers, the walls, floor, as well as the roof of the house were made of wood fiber and biosmol. In addition, BioHome3D is highly insulated and recyclable, and the precise printing technology made it possible to virtually eliminate construction waste. It only took 12 hours to build the house. It took just one electrician two hours to connect the electricity.

About 60 percent of low-income renters in Maine spend more than 50 percent of their income on housing. There is also a high need for affordable housing in the United States. Researchers say 3D-printed homes could be the solution. It is noted that BioHome3D costs less than conventional housing, but the price is not specified.
