Elon Musk hired a hacker who cracked the PlayStation 3 to work on Twitter

Elon Musk hired George Hotz, who is best known for breaking the carrier lock on the iPhone and also hacking the PlayStation 3, to fix certain problems on Twitter, namely the faulty search function.

Previously, Mase had already tried to hire a hacker to work for Tesla, but they did not agree on the conditions. Subsequently, Hotz founded the company Comma AI, which developed competing software against Tesla's autopilot. In 2015, they had a dispute over whether one person or a small company "lacking extensive engineering verification capabilities" could create self-driving software that could be used in real cars. And now he seems to have changed his mind and hired Hotz to work for Twitter after all.

Hotz has big plans for his 12 weeks at Twitter. He wants to get rid of the pop-up that shows you've been scrolling for too long and also improve the relevance of search results. But he won't do it alone, as he is already looking for engineers who want to help him "for free". As some users have noted, inviting volunteers to work on one of the largest companies in Silicon Valley is not the best move, especially after Musk fired full-time engineers who could definitely help him with this issue.

“If I just get rid of the pop up I still consider my internship a win,” Hotz tweeted. “I have a Chrome extension on my laptop to block it."
