CNBC, citing internal records and the words of several dismissed employees, writes that after Elon Musk bought Twitter, the number of the company's full-time employees decreased by 80%.

Here's What We Know

Prior to the deal, Twitter had about 7,500 employees. Even before the purchase, there were rumors of layoffs, but no one anticipated that they would be so massive. According to CNBC, the company now has up to 1,300 active, active employees. That includes fewer than 550 full-time engineers and about 75 employees who are on leave.

For example, the company's trust and security team, which makes policy recommendations and design and product changes to keep all Twitter users safe, has fewer than 20 full-time employees.

On top of that, there are about 1,400 out-of-work Twitter employees who are still being paid, but are no longer expected to perform their old duties. Many of them resigned themselves, not accepting Musk's demands for "hardcore" work. Also, many were forced to resign after the permanent work-at-home policy was repealed.

In addition to the 1,300 full-time employees, Twitter employs about 130 people from Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company and other companies.

In doing so, Musk contradicted internal records obtained by CNBC in a series of tweets and claimed that Twitter now employs about 2,300 full-time employees and thousands of contractors.
