Elon Musk took away a San Francisco photographer's @x Twitter username - the administration offered a meeting with company executives and souvenirs as compensation
Last week, the social network Twitter went by the name X. A few years ago, a user created the @x account, but recently Elon Musk took it away.
Here's What We Know
The @x account belonged to Gene Hwang, a photographer from San Francisco. He created his account in 2007, but recently discovered the username no longer belonged to him. He was informed in an email that @x was now the property of the company.
According to the photographer, he was willing to sell the username, but he was not offered monetary compensation. Instead, the email said he could get free merchandise and meet with company executives.
Twitter's rules state that an account can be deleted for trademark infringement. It is still unclear exactly what trademarks Musk's company owns. By the way, the San Francisco photographer now has a new name - @x12345678998765.
One-letter accounts appeared at the dawn of the social network and are now the most valuable. In particular, user @n reported being offered $50,000 for an account.
