UK halted development of Mosquito drone a year before first flight

In 2015,Great Britain began developing the Mosquitounmanned aerial vehicle . Seven years later, the project was shut down.

This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom. The ministry explained the decision by the availability of more profitable and less expensive alternatives. The project was closed after analyzing the Lightweight Affordable Novel Combat Aircraftprogram and the demonstration model of the combat drone.

Work on the Mosquito did not go in vain. The Department of Defense stressed that the Royal Air Force was able to make progress and gained an understanding of how the UAV's capabilities could be used during the development of the strike drone.

Spirit AeroSystems Belfast, Northrup Grumman UK and Intrepid Minds were involved in developing the Mosquito demonstrator. They were awarded £30 million ($36.6 million) in early 2021. The first drone flight was scheduled for 2023.
