UK NHS will test delivery of life-saving medicines using drones
The National Health Service of Great Britain (NHS) plans to test delivery of life-saving medicines by drones.
What we know
To implement the idea NHS will cooperate with the company Apian, which is engaged in the development of unmanned aerial vehicles. The startup's drones will deliver medications to the Isle of Wight. It is in the British Channel, 5-8 km off the coast of Hampshire.
The journey of patients from the island to the island takes up to four hours. An unmanned aerial vehicle can deliver the most important medicines in about half an hour. NHS also plans to launch a service for the delivery of medicines in emergencies.
Note that in the UK, drone delivery is not only being tested by the medical authority. The Royal Mail has used UAVs to deliver supplies to remote regions, including islands around the United Kingdom.
