China successfully tested a unique solar drone QMX50
The Aviation Industry Corporation of China has successfully tested a "solar" unmanned aerial vehicle. It is called QMX50.
Here's What We Know
The new Chinese drone operates only from the sun. It is analogous to Airbus' American Zephyr drone, which crashed a few weeks ago after a continuous flight of more than two months.
The QMX50 was tested in the Chinese city of Yuilin, which is in Shaanxi province in northwest China. Specialists responsible for the tests state that all systems of the drone operated normally during the 26-minute flight.
The QMX50 was developed by the First Aviation Institute of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is the debut drone, which has a two-fuselage design. The drone will be able to perform a number of missions, including monitoring forest fires, high-altitude reconnaissance, mapping and atmospheric surveillance. The QMX50 can also be used as a transponder for communication.
