In Portugal, as part of NATO exercises REP(MUS) 2022 unmanned aerial vehicle Camcopter S-100 was tested.

Here's What We Know

An international industrial group Thales and the Austrian company Shiebel took part in the drone tests. The latter is the developer of the Camcopter S-100 along with German manufacturer Diehl BGT Defense.

In this year's exercise, participants had to protect a strategic port and use innovative technology to conduct surveillance, detection and classification of probable enemy submarines. The S-100 Camcopter was used to collect, optimize and transmit data to the command post. The Thales Bluetracker system handled the information processing.

The deployment of the drones gave the Navy the ability to execute the mission with limited manpower resources. Thales emphasized that the use of drones was a "useful and effective addition to the anti-submarine system."
