Iran demonstrates for the first time the Shahed-149 Gaza drone - it can fly at 350km/h and carry 13 missiles
Another Shahed series drone has been delivered to the Iranian army. It is called Shahed-149 Gaza and is no longer a bomber like the Shahed-131/136 used in the war against Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
The military has shown for the first time the operation of an unmanned aerial vehicle. The developer of the drone is Shahed Aviation Industries and the manufacturer is HESA Corporation. Shahed-149 Gaza was announced in 2021 and entered service a year later.
The Shahed-149 resembles the US General Atomics' MQ-1 Predator or MQ-9 Reaper drones. The Iranian drone can carry cameras, thermal imaging camera, laser rangefinder for reconnaissance and up to 13 missiles or bombs for striking enemy positions.
The engine has a power of 750 horsepower. The propulsion system provides a cruising speed of 350 km/h. Maximum flight time is 35 hours. The Shahed-149 can fly at an altitude of 11km. The weight of the UAV is 3.1 tonnes and its wingspan is 21 metres.
