Kratos received $21.7m to supply BQM-167A drones to the US Air Force
In early March, we wrote that Kratos Defense & Solutions was awarded nearly $50 million to produce BQM-177A SSAT aerial targets for the US Air Force. A few days later, the service ordered another batch of drones.
Here's What We Know
This time it is about the BQM-167A unmanned targets. The US Air Force has awarded Kratos Defense & Solutions $21.7 million to produce and deliver 17 drones as part of the Air Force Subscale Aerial Targets (AFSAT) programme.
The deal follows the original contract covering batches #17-21. The agreement was for $338 million and can be increased to $374 million if all options are fulfilled. The new agreement involves the delivery of additional equipment in addition to aerial targets.
The BQM-167A is equipped with a turbojet engine, which enables the drone to reach a speed of 1,135km/h (M = 0.92) at an altitude of 15.24km. The maximum flight range is 2,600 km and the duration is 3 hours.
