Last week it was revealed that Greece had committed nearly half a billion dollars to purchase Spike anti-tank missiles. As it became known, the deal includes not only munitions, but also Orbiter 3 drones.

Here's What We Know

The deal was signed by Aristeidis Alexopoulos, head of Greece's General Directorate of Defence Investment and Armaments, and Eyal Zamir, director general of the Israeli Ministry of Defence. The contract value was €370 million ($403 million).

Orbiter 3 was developed by Aeronautics, a subsidiary of Rafael. It is used to find targets to be destroyed by Spike anti-tank missiles. The drone is capable not only of searching for targets, but also detecting their type.

The drone weighs 32 kg and can stay in the air for six hours. Orbiter 3 is suitable for reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Greece will receive dozens of drones as part of the $403 million contract, but the exact number is not yet known.

Orbiter 3 does not need a runway to launch. During flight, it can navigate even in areas without a GPS signal.
