The Ukrainian Air Force shot down its own Bayraktar TB2 drone over Kyiv, which lost control
By the evening of 4 May, many videos had appeared on social media from Kiev residents who filmed the destruction of a drone over the centre of the capital. As it turned out, it was a Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drone.
Here's What We Know
Initially, there were several speculations about the downed drone. The Russian army has similar Forpost and Korsar drones in its arsenal. However, the former has a slightly different tail design, while the latter is equipped with a folding landing gear.
The Ukrainian Air Force put an end to the speculation. The service released an official statement saying that the sold drone was Bayraktar TB2. The drone lost control during a routine flight.
Uncontrolled stay of Bayraktar TB2 in the sky above Kyiv could have led to undesirable consequences. In this connection, the command of the Ukrainian Air Force decided to destroy the drone.
The drone probably lost control due to a technical malfunction. The reasons will be established in the course of the investigation. It is gratifying that there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the Bayraktar TB2 wreckage crash.
