Hermes 900 - the first ever drone certified for civilian and military operations

Israel's Elbit System has unveiled a civilian version of the Hermes 900 military drone. It is called the Hermes 900 Starliner.

Here's What We Know

The manufacturer brought the new drone to the Paris Air Show. The company claims that the Hermes is the world's first drone to receive military and civilian certifications. It can also carry out maritime patrol missions commissioned by the navy or civilian agencies.

Speaking to reporters, Elbit System officials said the company has sold more than 120 Hermes 900 drones to foreign customers. The manufacturer calls it the most effective MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) class drone.

The Starliner version is designed to fly in civilian airspace. This modification of the drone can be used for anything. For example, to assist in extinguishing fires. It took Elbit System more than six years to get it certified.
