China wants to develop a long-range kamikaze drone based on subsonic AR family missiles
China's People's Liberation Army may receive a new kamikaze drone. The development will be handled by Aerospace CH UAV Co Ltd.
Here's What We Know
The unmanned aerial vehicle is so far known only as the AR-XX. It will be built on the basis of air-to-ground missiles of the AR family and will be able to develop up to sonic speed (up to 343 m / s).
The publication Janes published an image that shows two versions of the suicide drone. The first looks like the American Switchblade 300, and the second version resembles the Iranian development Shahed-136.
The AR family includes missiles weighing 20-100kg. The AR-3 model has a launch range of 100 kilometres. Chinese media report the existence of the AR-10 and AR-20 barrage munitions, which were developed as man-portable weapons for infantry operations.
