The UK Army has unveiled the Hydra 400 drone, armed with three Brimstone missiles with a launch range of more than 30 km
The British Army has revealed a drone that can launch Brimstone missiles. The drone is called the Hydra 400.
Here's What We Know
The Brimstone is a British air-to-ground missile developed by MBDA for the UK Royal Air Force. UK Army officials say the Hydra 400 will offer the capabilities of the Apache attack helicopter, but will fit in the boot of a Land Rover.
It takes only six minutes to prepare the drone for launch. The Hydra 400 is armed with three Brimstone air-to-ground missiles and can destroy enemy tanks within a radius of more than 20 miles (32 kilometres).
The UAV was unveiled at the DSEI exhibition. For now, the Hydra 400 exists in prototype form. By the end of the year, the UK Army plans to test the UAV during military exercises. Due to bureaucratic nuances, the drone may not be adopted into service until five years from now.
