BAE Systems has equipped the Malloy T-600 VTOL drone with a Sting Ray anti-ship torpedo with a launch range of up to 11km
During a NATO exercise in Portugal, BAE Systems demonstrated that the Malloy T-600 drone can carry a Sting Ray torpedo.
Here's What We Know
The T-600 is a demonstration prototype that will form the basis of the Malloy T-650 drone. It can take off and land vertically without the need for runways. The drone has a range of up to 80 kilometres and can carry up to 200kg of payload, reaching speeds of up to 140km/h.
Malloy Aeronautics plans to develop a T-650 drone that will be able to offer rapid reconfiguration capabilities. The company believes that the new drone model will appeal to military and civilian customers.
The military will be able to use the Malloy T-650 in anti-ship warfare operations. The ability to carry and launch Sting Ray lightweight torpedoes was successfully demonstrated at the REPMUS (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Uncrewed Systems) exercise. The event focused on the integration of modern technology into existing systems.
