Ubisoft has another wave of layoffs, and this time it has a local character: as part of the restructuring, the French publisher closed the famous Red Storm Entertainment studio, which created the Tom Clancy's game series.

What is known

All 105 developers from Red Storm were left without work, as the management reported in a work letter. Only some technical specialists remained on Ubisoft's team, who will be engaged in supporting the Snowdrop engine, but game development for this studio is finished.

Red Storm was founded in 1996 in the USA by writer Tom Clancy, who is known for his thrilling espionage novels — these became the basis for the game series, the first of which was the tactical shooter Rainbow Six. After its release, Ubisoft saw the potential in the newly formed franchise and bought the studio.

In recent years, Red Storm has been plagued by a series of failures, the latest of which was the cancellation of Tom Clancy’s The Division: Heartland in 2024. The studio mainly developed VR games (Werewolves Within, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, and Assassin's Creed Nexus VR).

Even though Red Storm is closed, and Ubisoft is moving away from the Tom Clancy's brand in the game's title, the series will continue to live, and its development is handled by Massive Entertainment (The Division), Ubisoft Montréal (Rainbow Six Siege), Ubisoft Paris (Ghost Recon: Wildlands), and Ubisoft Toronto (Splinter Cell remake).
