Instead of realityOS: Apple will name an operating system for the branded AR/VR helmet xrOS
A few months ago we wrote that Apple was preparing the realityOS operating system for the mixed reality helmet. Now the manufacturer has decided to change the name of the system.
Here's What We Know
Insider and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman told us about it. According to Gurman, Apple has registered a new and final name for the operating system - xrOS. The acronym XR stands for eXtended Reality. That is, the helmet will support virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).
Unfortunately, there are almost no details about xrOS. Only it is known that it passes with the codename Oak. Most likely, it will look similar to iOS. The company's proprietary ARM chip should be responsible for running xrOS.
As for the helmet, it should be released in the first half of 2023. According to rumors, the gadget will get a Sony Micro-OLED screen, a lot of sensors, as well as support for proprietary services Apple TV + and Apple Arcade. The device will cost 2000-3000 USD.
