Apple will allow third-party apps in iOS 17, but only in Europe - Bloomberg
Earlier we wrote that according to insiders, iOS 17 will introduce a feature that many iPhone owners have been waiting for - the ability to install apps from third-party sources, not just from the official App Store. But it's likely that this feature won't be available to everyone.
Here's What We Know
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman visited The MacRumors Show and said that app downloads from third-party shops will probably only be available in Europe. And that's not surprising, since it's a requirement of the European Union. Last year, the European Parliament passed a law that requires companies to allow third-party app shops and payment systems on their platforms. But this law only applies to Europe, so the feature won't be available in other countries.
In addition, according to Mark, Apple will charge developers who publish their apps on alternative sources, i.e. not the App Store.
iOS 17 is expected to be officially announced at the WWDC 2023 developer conference, which will take place from June 5 to 9. But Apple is unlikely to pay attention to the new feature.
