The Polish Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with the U.S. to buy 116 tanks to strengthen the Polish armed forces.

What we know

This was announced by the Polish Minister of Defense. We are talking about 116 M1A1 Abrams tanks. This is a third generation of main battle tanks made in the USA. The tank is named in honor of General Creighton Abrams, former chief of staff of the US Army and commander of the US forces in Vietnam from 1968 to 1972. The M1A1 Abrams is an upgraded version of the M1 Abrams, which entered the US service in 1991. The main weapon of the tank is the M256 120 mm smoothbore gun developed at Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH, Germany.

By the way, besides 116 tanks M1A1 Abrams, Poland also ordered 250 Abrams M1A2 SEPv3 tanks from the US. That means the Polish will get about 300 American tanks in total. Rumors state that Poland could give Ukraine its PT-91 in exchange. Recall, earlier Poland gave their T-72s to us.
