The Pentagon told when the U.S. will hand over NASAMS SAMs to Ukraine
Following the new military assistance, the Pentagon also revealed when the U.S. plans to transfer a NASAMS surface-to-air missile system to Ukraine.
When to expect
According to the Pentagon information, we will receive the Norwegian SAMs in the next two-three months. The Pentagon does not say all details, but we can presume that they make the SAMs especially for us. Besides, it will take some time to train, although it is not excluded that the Ukrainian armed forces are already training to use them.
By the way, Ukraine is to receive at least two batteries of SAM systems NASAMS. The exactnumber of SAMs is not specified, but it is known that the NASAMS III battery consists of six mobile missile launchers on caterpillar chassis.
Recall that NASAMS is a mobile SAM for destruction of maneuvering targets at low and medium altitudes. The system was developed in the early 1990s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense with the participation of American Raytheon. The SAM entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles have a range of 20-40 km and maximum altitude of 20 km. The cost of one such battery is about $65 million.
