Ukraine wants SAMP/T surface-to-air missile systems with Aster 30 missiles with a range of up to 100 km

After the shelling of Ukrainian cities by Russian missiles on October 10 and 11, the need for Western air defense systems became an urgent issue again.

President Volodymyr Zelensky recalled at the G7 meeting that Ukraine expects the United States to provide it with modern long- and medium-range air defense systems. He also called on France and Italy to transfer SAMP/T surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine.

Such systems are in service with the French Air and Space Forces. SAMP/T uses Aster 30 missiles, which can hit targets up to 100 kilometers in range and up to 25 kilometers in height. To launch, it uses vertical launchers based on a car chassis for eight missiles.
