Ukrainian software "єPPO" helped shoot down a Russian cruise missile for the first time.

Here's What We Know

The "єPPO" app was created by Ukrainian developers of the Technari design group in cooperation with air defense specialists, Air Force officers and operational command "South". The software has been available on Google Play since mid-October 2022.

On the morning of Oct. 22, the Ukrainian Air Force used єPPO to shoot down a Kalibr cruise missile in the south of the country. An Igla man-portable surface-to-air missile system was used to destroy the $6.5 million missile.

In order to use "єPPO", it is necessary to turn on GPS, start the application and pass authorization through "Dia" system for identity confirmation. When detecting an aerial target it's necessary to choose the type (missile, drone, plane, helicopter), point the smartphone in the direction of its flight and press the big red button. The military will then receive targeting instructions.
