Up to 50,000 rounds a day: a day of war in Ukraine equals a month in Afghanistan in terms of the amount of artillery used - NYT

Ukraine and russia are using weapons and ammunition during war at a rate not seen since World War II. The availability of weapons will be a decisive factor, so allied countries are looking for ways to resupply Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

According to The New York Times, citing NATO officials, the amount of artillery used is staggering. Last summer in the Donbass, the AFU produced between 6,000 and 7,000 artillery shells daily, while the Russians produced between 40,000 and 50,000 shells a day.

By comparison, the U.S. produces only 15,000 shells a month, while NATO forces in Afghanistan could produce 300 shells a day. Camille Grand, a defense expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations, says a day in Ukraine is like a month or more in Afghanistan.

Now the West is trying to find increasingly scarce Soviet-era equipment and ammunition that Ukraine can use now, alternative systems and even discussing the possibility of NATO investment in old factories in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria to resume production of Soviet 152 mm and 122 mm shells.
