The U.S. may announce the transfer of Patriot and JDAM kits to Ukraine this week
According to the CNN news agency, the United States may announce deliveries of Patriot air defense systems and Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) kits to Ukraine as early as this week.
Here's What We Know
A few days ago it became known that the United States was considering sending to Ukraine a JDAM kit, which turns "dumb" bombs into high-precision munitions with a range of 15 miles (24 km). You can read more about it here.
The cost per kit is $22,000. It consists of wings and a tail unit that houses navigation equipment. A total of over 400,000 JDAM kits have been produced in the United States.
The new military aid package may include Patriot surface-to-air missile systems. The cost of one battery is $1 billion, and it has been recently reported that Ukraine may receive the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) modification, which allows shooting down ballistic missiles. Perhaps this is a hint that Iran has sent ballistic missiles to Russia after all.
