Canada has already purchased the NASAMS system for Ukraine
On January 10, we wrote that Canada had promised to buy from the United States and transfer to Ukraine one battery of NASAMS air defense missile systems. Only a week and a half has passed, and the NASAMS system has already been purchased.
Here's What We Know
U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said this after the eighth meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues of Ukraine at the U.S. military base "Ramstein" in Germany.
"Canada purchased the NASAMS system and related equipment for Ukraine," he said.
Austin also recalled that several countries have already offered help in strengthening Ukraine's air defense, mentioning France, Britain and Germany - the latter offered to transfer a Patriot battery.
By the way, Ukraine already has NASAMS air defense systems - they were transferred to the USA at the beginning of November. America will have to transfer a total of eight such systems.
NASAMS is a Norwegian mobile anti-aircraft missile system, which is designed to combat maneuvering aerodynamic targets at low and medium altitudes, namely UAVs, ballistic missiles, helicopters, aircraft, cruise missiles and other targets.
