Germany will transfer at least one company of Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine - Spiegel
Germany has decided to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Spiegel writes that the decision has been made, although there has been no official confirmation from the government.
Here's What We Know
Spiegel reports that we are talking about at least one Leopard 2A6 company. According to NATO standards, the company consists of 14 pieces of equipment.
It is claimed that the German Leopard tanks are to come from the Bundeswehr's stockpiles. In the medium to long term, additional tanks could be prepared from stocks held by the German industry.
It seems that Germany's decision was preceded by long negotiations and intensive consultations with allied countries, especially the US. Apparently, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made this decision following the example of other countries, which declared their readiness to provide their tanks to Ukraine. In particular, the media reported that the USA is ready to transfer 30-50 M1 Abrams tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In addition, Germany wants to grant permission to export Leopard tanks, which belong to other states, such as Poland.
