Canada has confirmed that it will transfer four Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine. This was announced today by the country's Defence Minister Anita Anand.

Here's What We Know

According to the Minister, it is about four Leopard 2A4 tanks of the Canadian Armed Forces. They were bought from the Netherlands during the Afghan war. Along with them, Canada is providing trainers, spare parts and ammunition.

"These heavily armoured and highly protected vehicles provide soldiers with a tactical advantage on the battlefield. Thanks to their excellent mobility, their firepower and their survivability, these tanks will allow Ukraine to liberate even more of its territory and defend its people from Russia’s brutal invasion".

Most importantly, the tanks are in combat-ready condition and will be shipped to Ukraine in the coming weeks.

A total of 112 Leopard 2 tanks are currently in service in Canada, including 82 designed for combat operations.
