In February, the allies may announce for the first time the provision of Western-designed aircraft to Ukraine. We are talking about the fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters.

Here's What We Know

CNN reports that the United States' position on sending General Dynamics jets to Ukraine has changed. Previously the US authorities believed that providing the fighters to Ukraine could lead to escalation. Now it all comes down to logistics and pilot training.

President Joe Biden has said that the USA will not provide Ukraine with its aircraft. Such a decision of the White House head was met with scepticism in the US Department of Defense. However, Washington will not interfere with other countries if they wish to transfer their fourth generation fighter jets to Ukraine.

So far, two European states have expressed such a wish. They are Poland and the Netherlands. Both countries are members of NATO.

The United States sees the transfer of F-16s to Ukraine as a costly process that is not worth it at this stage of the war. The priority for the USA now is to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with missiles, artillery and air defence systems. Note that the other day America officially announced for the first time the transfer of shells for HIMARS, which can hit targets up to 150 km away, which is almost double the distance of the GMLRS.
