The Danish authorities are considering sending Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine, but they will have to buy them back from the German company FFG.

Here's What We Know

FFG purchased 100 tanks from Denmark in 2010. The German company intended to refurbish the decommissioned vehicles for resale. It is now known that Denmark may buy back two dozen Leopard 1A5 tanks and hand them over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Leopard 1 entered service in 1965. It is an obsolete fighting vehicle that lacks robust armour. It received the 105mm L7 cannon, and after being upgraded to the A5, it received armour-piercing projectiles and a new fire control system.

The Leopard 1A5 could enter the territorial defence force or be used as a support vehicle for more modern tanks, including Leopard 2, Challenger 2 and Abrams. If Denmark buys the Leopard 1 from FFG, delivery to Ukraine could take three months.
