Sweden ready to send Stridsvagn 122 tanks to Ukraine - modified Leopard 2A5s with improved protection
Sweden recently announced that a new military aid package for Ukraine will include CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles and Archer self-propelled artillery units. Stockholm is also ready to transfer Stridsvagn 122 tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The readiness to discuss tank deliveries is reported by the Reuters news agency with reference to Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson. The number is not specified at this stage. The Swedish Army has some 120 Stridsvagn 122 tanks in service, which are a licensed German Leopard 2A5.
The Stridsvagn 122 has a reinforced running gear and additional armour modules. The tank is equipped with the GALAX system which gives the possibility to launch high-explosive and special munitions. The engine power is 1500 hp (1100 kW). The tank is capable of reaching 72 km/h on highway and has a cruising range of 550 km. The Stridsvagn 122 is equipped with a 120 mm Rheinmetall smoothbore gun and two 7.62 mm machine guns.
