Latvia to hand over all its Stinger MANPADS to Ukraine
The Latvian government has expressed its readiness to transfer to Ukraine all its Stinger man-portable air defence systems. Latvian Defence Minister Inara Murniece said this at a meeting of the Ukrainian Defence Contact Group (Ramstein).
"Latvia responded to Ukraine's request to supply air defence systems and decided to transfer all the Stinger air defence systems we have to Ukraine. We will do our best to transfer them as soon as possible. All the Stingers that we have sent to the front line in Ukraine are intended not only for Ukraine's freedom, but also for Latvia's security," the Defence Minister said.
According to her, this does not mean that Latvia will remain without man-portable air defence systems - it will use more modern RBS systems whose trajectory can be changed even after firing.
In addition, Latvia continues to implement a training programme for Ukrainian soldiers.
