Ukraine develops unmanned torpedoes with a range of up to 2,000km, which can carry up to 5 tonnes of explosives
The Ukrainian defence industry complex has started developing unmanned torpedoes. If everything goes according to plan, the Armed Forces will receive three versions with different warhead weights, ranges and dimensions.
Here's What We Know
The torpedoes will be equipped with a 3D sonar, a camera and a hydrophone for scanning and mapping. Artificial intelligence is used to identify the target, which receives information from video cameras and thermal imaging cameras. Three modifications of the unmanned torpedoes are in development: the TK 1000, TLK 400 and TLK 150.
TLK 150 is powered by an electric motor and will be able to carry 20-50kg of explosives. The torpedo will be 2.5 m long. It will be able to hit targets at a maximum range of 100 km.
TLK 400 variant will be 4-6 meters in size. This version of the torpedo will carry 500 kg of explosives. Its range will be 1,200 km.
Finally, the most interesting version of the unmanned torpedo is called TLK 1000 with a size of 4-12 meters. This modification will have a range of 2,000 km and will be able to carry 5,000 kg of explosives.
