The Ukrainian Armed Forces demonstrated last month that even the Russian army's most effective weapons can be destroyed. American anti-aircraft missile systems played a role in this. In particular, the Patriot.

Here's What We Know

Judging by the anti-missile wreckage that came into the picture last month, Ukraine received MIM-104F Patriot systems with PAC-3 Cost Reduction Initiative (CRI) interceptors. They allowed 7 of the 7 hypersonic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles to be shot down.

During May, Russia launched 114 Kh-101, Kh-55 and Kh-555 strategic cruise missiles, of which 106 (93%) were shot down. The air defence system also repelled strikes by sea-launched Kalibr cruise missiles with about 90% effectiveness, 26 out of 29.

The Kh-22s had the most problems. Each of the five missiles reached its target. As for the S-300, S-400, Iskander-M and Iskander-K, the Air Force shot down 16 of 28 missiles (57%). The problem here is that all of the missiles, except for Iskander-K, fly on a ballistic trajectory.

In addition, at least 375 kamikaze drones Shahed-131, Shahed-136 and about 10 Lancet were destroyed in May. In total, more than 400 drones of various types were shot down, including reconnaissance drones. The potential value of all missiles and drones is approximately $1.7 billion.
