MIM-104 Patriot intercepts six russian Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles in Kyiv during South African president's visit to Ukraine
During South African President Cyril Ramaphosa's visit to Ukraine, the Russian federation launched a powerful missile attack on Kyiv. But the attack was repelled by the Patriot air defence system.
Here's What We Know
The MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system managed, according to preliminary reports, to destroy six Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic/air ballistic missiles. The Air Force also claimed to have intercepted six Kalibr cruise missiles and two reconnaissance drones.
The service is yet to clarify the actual number of threats eliminated, but if the preliminary information is correct, the MIM-104 Patriot has been able to intercept 13 hypersonic/air ballistic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles since the beginning of last month.
The day before, Colonel Sergiy Yaremenko, commander of the 96th anti-aircraft missile brigade of the Centre air command, spoke about the performance of the air defence system. According to him, the MIM-104 Patriot was able to almost simultaneously intercept six hypersonic/air ballistic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles during a massive strike in May.
