Britain gives $20.5m to help Ukraine strengthen its cyber defences
The UK government has announced an expanded programme of support for Ukraine's cyber defence.
Details
The British government has announced the allocation of 16 million pounds (20.5 million US dollars) to strengthen Ukraine's cyber defence. On top of this, there is the possibility of another £9 million from international allies.
This package is in addition to the £6.35 million announced last year. With this money Ukraine will be better able to protect critical infrastructure from Russian hacking attacks.
"Russia’s appalling attacks on Ukraine are not limited to their barbaric land invasion, but also involve sickening attempts to attack their cyber infrastructure that provides vital services, from banking to energy supplies, to innocent Ukrainian people. This funding is critical to stopping those onslaughts, hardening Ukraine’s cyber defences and increasing the country’s ability to detect and disable the malware targeted at them", said UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
