Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed launcher and radar from $2.5bn Russian SA-21 Growler surface-to-air missile system
The Russian S-400 Triumph surface-to-air missile system (NATO classification: SA-21 Growler) has once again become a new target for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They were probably able to destroy two components of the Russian Federation's air defence system using HIMARS.
Here's What We Know
In early 2023, the Ukrainian Defence Forces destroyed the first launcher 5P85SM2-01 with 5B55P missiles from the S-400 surface-to-air missile system. Nearly six months later, they were able to eliminate the 55K6E combat control point for the first time.
This time there is information about the destruction of another 5P85SM2-01 launcher. Along with it, the Russian army lost a 92H6A multifunction radar station, which is part of the surface-to-air missile system. This is the first confirmed instance of radar destruction.
The cost of the SA-21 Growler is about $2.5 billion. The Ukrainian army could also have received such an anti-aircraft missile system, but Turkey refused to hand it over, despite pressure from the US. By the way, because of the purchase of C-400, Turkey itself was left without the fifth generation fighters F-35.
