A few days ago, we wrote about the destruction of the launcher and radar of the S-400 Triumf SAM system (SA-21 Growler, according to NATO classification). As it became known, this particular surface-to-air missile system was used for a missile strike on Kramatorsk at the end of June 2023.

Here's What We Know

The Russian army has long been using ground-to-ground air defence systems to strike ground targets. Often these are civilian objects that have nothing to do with military infrastructure. That is exactly what happened late last month.

On 27 June, the Russians struck a pizzeria in the city of Kramatorsk. The missile attack killed 12 people, including three children. According to the Centre for Strategic Communications, the missile was launched from the S-400 Triumf complex.

The anti-aircraft missile system was located near the town of Debaltsevo. The distance from it to Kramatorsk is less than 100 kilometres. The missile, which flies on a ballistic trajectory, has a warhead weighing about 200kg and a launch range of more than 200km.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the S-400 Triumf with high-precision GMLRS projectiles from the M142 HIMARS complex. This information was confirmed by Operational Command North. The precision hit managed to burn to the ground the 92N6A radar station and the 5P85SM2-01 launcher.
