UK transfers 12.5 times more shells to Ukrainian Armed Forces than planned for 2022
The United Kingdom and Germany have been the largest European suppliers of weapons to Ukraine since February 2022. As it turned out, the United Kingdom transferred many times more shells to Ukraine than it had originally planned.
Here's What We Know
This was stated by the Minister of defence of the UK Ben Wallace (Ben Wallace). According to the head of the defence ministry, the United Kingdom donated 200,000 munitions, although initially the authorities planned to allocate 16,000 units, i.e. 184,000 less. Separately, the minister noted that Ukraine received 4,000 shells along with Challenger 2 tanks.
Arms deliveries to Ukraine have depleted British stocks. Therefore, the UK authorities decided to invest £2.5bn ($3.2bn) to fill the gaps. In addition, the UK will spend another £6.6bn ($8.6bn) on developing new military technologies.
