The U.S. Navy has added a third Overlord-type unmanned ship to its fleet. It is called Mariner.
Here's What We Know
The ship will undergo several more upgrades and a series of tests. After that, the ship will go to California, where it will perform its tasks. Mariner is scheduled to depart for California in fiscal 2023, which begins Oct. 1, 2022.
The unmanned ship has received an Aegis combat system. With its help, the U.S. Navy will be able to use Mariner to control other unmanned vessels in the fleet. There are seven drones in the US Navy's arsenal now, including the Nomad and Ranger, which together with the Mariner are of the Overlord type.
