China wants to create a unique hypersonic amphibious missile that can travel underwater at 360 km/h
Chinese engineers are working on a hypersonic rocket, the unique feature of which will be the ability to move underwater.
Here's What We Know
The length of the rocket will be 5 meters. It will be able to rise to a height of 10 km and dive to a depth of 100 m. The maximum speed of the missile in the air will be 2.5 Mach (2,450 km/h), and underwater - 100 m/s (360 km/h).
Chinese developers claim that the missile will be able to dive underwater after it passes 200 km in the air. The maximum range under water will be 20 km. The missile will also be able to go underwater when the distance to the target is reduced to 10 km.
Diving will allow the hypersonic missile to evade enemy air defenses. But now the developers need to solve the problem of creating a propulsion system that will be able to provide sufficient thrust both underwater and in the air.
