AM General shows CT-2 Hawkeye mobile howitzer system based on Humvee armored vehicle
AM General has demonstrated the capabilities of a mobile howitzer system on a Humvee chassis. It's called the CT-2 Hawkeye.
Here's What We Know
The howitzer was developed by AM General in conjunction with Mandus Group. It is based on the 105 mm M20 gun, which was mounted on the Humvee M1152 armored vehicle. The artillery unit has a Soft Recoil system to reduce the load and stabilize the design.
The gun's location on the Humvee provides high mobility of the howitzer system. Low weight and relatively compact dimensions allow the CT-2 Hawkeye to be transported by helicopter with slings.
The artillery unit is equipped with an M137A2 sight, MG 9000 digital system, Northrop Grumman's LN-270 inertial navigation system and Sensor Systems GPS antenna. It has a maximum range of about 12 km and 20 km for conventional and active-rocket rounds, respectively.
The CT-2 Hawkeye weighs less than 4,500 kg. Overall dimensions are 5 x 2.4 x 2.3 m. The Humvee can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h and has a range of 400 km on the highway.
