The Slovenian government has announced the imminent transfer of a batch of upgraded T-55 tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Here's What We Know

Ukraine will receive 28 tanks. The modernized version is called the M-55S. The transfer is performed according to a circular scheme, i.e. Slovenia will receive other equipment instead of them. More precisely, we are talking about 40 units of German military transport vehicles.

The tanks were upgraded by the Slovenian company STO RAVNE and the Israeli company Elbit. The last updated version was delivered into service of the Slovenian army in 1999. The upgrade to M-55S meant the installation of a new 105mm L7 cannon and a new dynamic protection.

The tanks received an updated fire control system and Fotona SGS-55 sight with a laser rangefinder. The M-55S has a V-12 diesel engine, the power of which was increased from 520 hp to 600 hp.
