L3Harris and Embraer will build an air tanker based on the KC-390 Millennium for the U.S. Air Force
The U.S. Air Force although get a new refueling plane. It will be created by the Brazilian company Embraer and American L3Harris.
Here's What We Know
The flying tanker will not be built from scratch. It will be based on the military transport helicopter KC-390 Millennium company Embraer. The Brazilian manufacturer together with L3Harris plans to upgrade the refueling system by installing a guided boom. The companies also want to improve the control and communication systems.
This is not the end of modernization of the KC-390 Millennium. L3Harris and Embraer intend to adapt the aircraft for use on short runways. This would significantly expand the flying refueler's applications.
L3Harris and Embraer have not yet decided where to upgrade the aircraft. Now the companies are discussing the possibility of arranging the final assembly, improvement and refinement at the American manufacturer's plant in Texas.
