Saab shipped two new F-39E Gripen aircraft to Brazil under a $5.4 billion contract
Sweden's Saab has delivered two F-39E Gripen fighters to Brazil. They will be in service with the country's Air Force, which signed a contract to buy the planes eight years ago.
Here's What We Know
Brazil received the fighters with registration numbers FAB 4103 and 4104. Both aircraft were assembled in Sweden at the Saab factory. This clarification takes place because the production of some of the fighters will take place in Brazil at the Embraer plant.
The F-39E Gripen were transported to South America by the Dutch ship Minervagracht. The Brazilian Air Force will receive two more aircraft by the end of 2022. Preparation for the missions will take place at the Embraer plant. The first flights are scheduled for November-December 2022 at Anapolis Air Force Base (Anapolis).
In 2014, Brazil signed a contract to buy Gripen in E (single-seat) and F (two-seat) modifications - 28 and 8 units, respectively. The F-39 is the Brazilian designation for the aircraft. The cost of the contract is $5.4 billion.
