The U.S. Navy handed over its fourth Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye long-range radar detection deck aircraft to Japan

Japan received another U.S. E-2D Advanced Hawkeye long-range radar aircraft from Northrop Grumman. This is the fourth aircraft since 2019.

Here's What We Know

The U.S. Marine Corps unloaded the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye early warning aircraft at Iwakuni Air Force Base for transfer to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The aircraft arrived at the base Oct. 18 and is already being prepared for shipment to Japan.

The Land of the Rising Sun has ordered 13 E-2D Advanced Hawkeye models. They will replace the E-2C Hawkeye, which have been in service with the Japanese army since 1983. By the way, Japan is the largest operator of E-2 after the United States.

As part of the contract, Northrop Grumman handed over the first aircraft to Japan in 2019. By the end of the year, the U.S. will send another E-2D Advanced Hawkeye to Japan, increasing the total to five units.
