British F-35 Lightning II and Eurofighter Typhoon fighters set a record at an exercise, launching 53 AIM-132 ASRAAM missiles at Banshee unmanned targets

Pilots of F-35 Lightning II and Eurofighter Typhoon fighters of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) were able to set a record for the number of AIM-132 ASRAAM missiles launched.

Here's What We Know

The record was set as part of a September 2022 exercise held at the Hebrides Air Weapons Range. Over ten days, F-35 Lightning II and Eurofighter Typhoon pilots from eight squadrons conducted the most massive missile launches on Banshee unmanned targets, firing 53 missiles.

The AIM-132 Advanced Short-Range Air (ASRAAM) is a British air-to-air missile. It has a mass of 88 kg, a length of 2.9 meters and a diameter of 1.6 cm. In flight, the missile can reach speeds of up to Mach 3.5 (4321.8 km/h).
