Ukraine received 28 upgraded M-55S tanks with a new gun and a powerful engine
In mid-September, it became known that Ukraine would receive nearly three dozen M-55S tanks from Slovenia. And now the combat vehicles have already arrived.
Here's What We Know
Slovenia transferred 28 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They were in the reserve of the Slovenian army, and now will strengthen the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Instead, 40 German military transport vehicles will go to Slovenia as part of a circular exchange.
The M-55S is an upgrade of the Soviet T-55 tank. Slovenia received the last upgraded version of the fighting vehicle in 1999. The tank received dynamic protection and a V12 diesel engine, the power of which increased by about 15% to 600 horsepower.
These innovations are not the only upgrade of the combat vehicle. The M-55S has a new 105mm cannon, which is paired with a Fotona SGS-55 laser rangefinder sight. The tank also got a new fire control system.
